NFL Power Rankings Week Nine: Steelers, Patriots On The Move
The Pittsburgh Steelers started the season as the defending Super Bowl champions and were may experts' pick to repeat as NFL champions. After three weeks, people started writing the Steelers off, but now at the midway mark of the season, Pittsburgh is on track to defend their title.
Despite the stellar play that Pittsburgh has exhibited over the past month, they still have not cracked the top three in our power rankings. New Orleans remained on top after another come from behind win, and the other undefeated team in the league, Indianapolis, stayed at number two.
Minnesota, even with the loss to the Steelers, stays at number three after their bye week. The Vikings still have one less loss than the Steelers, which keeps them ahead of Pittsburgh in this weeks rankings. Pittsburgh moves to number four.
The other team shooting up the rankings is the New England Patriots. Tom Brady seems to be rounding into form, and the Patriots are again among the elite teams in the AFC. They play a big game this weekend against the Colts.
Cincinnati is number five this week, and is tied with the Steelers for the lead in the AFC North and they are coming off a win against Baltimore that gave them the season sweep of the Ravens. The Bengals and Steelers will meet for the division lead Sunday in Pittsburgh.
The Dallas Cowboys have recovered from an early season slump and now leads the NFC east all by themselves. They are number six in this weeks rankings. Denver is number seven, despite losing two games in a row. If the Broncos do not right their ship this weekend in Washington, they could find themselves outside our top ten for the first time next week.
Atlanta, Houston, and Arizona round out our top ten this week. All three teams are 5-3, and have somewhat underperformed. They all have the talent to make a deep run in the playoffs should they get there.
