NFL Power Rankings Week One: Steelers On Top
The last time the Pittsburgh Steelers were in the position of having to defend a Super Bowl championship, they staggered through the season and had a disappointing showing. After the season?s first week this year, Pittsburgh looks intent on not having history repeat itself.
The Steelers begin the season on top of our weekly NFL power rankings after a hard fought victory against the Tennessee Titans, the team with the best record in the AFC last year. The Steelers used their usual formula of suffocating defense and Big Ben to carry them to victory.
Another team from Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Eagles, comes in at number two. The Eagles demoralized the Carolina Panthers while routing the Panthers on their home field. That impressive victory gains the Eagles the number two spot after the first week.
Drew Brees looked like a quarterback on a mission in week one, and his six touchdown passes make the Saints our number three team. It is true the Saints were playing the lowly Lions, but they still looked more impressive than most other teams. If New Orleans can find a defense, the Saints may be a team to reckon with in the NFC.
The Atlanta Falcons and the Baltimore Ravens round out the top five. The Falcons looked strong against a playoff team from last year, the Miami Dolphins. Baltimore looked like their offense may be catching up to their defense, and that could be scary for opponents in the near future.
