NFL Preseason Betting Odds: Patriots Favored Big Over Rams
The St. Louis Rams may have signed the top pick in the draft in Sam Bradford, but it is clear even in the preseason that the Rams will spend many weeks this season as underdogs. The latest NFL betting odds have the Rams as eight point underdogs tonight against the New England Patriots.
It is rare in a preseason game that any team is favored by more than a touchdown. The backups play a significant role in the outcome of games, and that usually leaves odds makers with little information to base their odds on. The result are betting lines between one and four points.
The fact that this is the third game of the preseason may have something to do with the high betting line. The starters typically play through the first half and most of the time well into the third quarter. That may give the Patriots the edge as they are expected to compete for an AFC title this season.
The Rams will again rely heavily on running back Steven Jackson. The running back has had a great career to date, and should again have a solid year. With the growing pains expected on offense in the passing game, Jackson may have to carry an even bigger load than in years past.
New England has a balanced attack and many weapons on offense. Quarterback Tom Brady is now a year removed from his injury that sidelined him two seasons ago, and the Patriots defense should be strong enough to help them compete against the Jets and Dolphins for the AFC East title.
The betting total for tonight's game in New England is 38.5. The Colts and Packers will also hook yup tonight in their third game of the preseason. Green Bay is favored by four points, and the total is 44.5, with both teams having dynamic offensive attacks.
