The NFL is always looking at the bottom line when it comes to their league, and that is why the Pro-Bowl this season is being played in the same city as the Super Bowl. It is the first time in history that has happened.

The game, which will be played in Miami, may attract more than just the regular fan, now that it is back on the US mainland. Sports books are hoping, and some analysts believe, that there will be more money wagered on the game.

In past seasons, the Pro-Bowl has taken place in Hawaii and was viewed more as an exhibition and a time for a vacation for players. With the game in Miami, more of the top players may attend and take the game seriously leading up to the Super Bowl the following week.

Whether that happens or not remains to be seen. Already, Tom Brady and Larry Fitzgerald have removed themselves from the game. There is an expectation that more players that were picked will also skip the game.

"The betting has never been big on the Pro-Bowl, mostly because it is played after the Super Bowl and many fans have turned the page on football by then," said Analyst Brad Dawkins, "But this year, there may be more excitement surrounding the game, especially for the thousands of fans who will make a week-long vacation out of the Pro-Bowl and Super Bowl events."

The NFL has always denied that gambling is the driving force behind their money making machine, but the statistics are not in favor of that point of view. Ratings for the isolated football games are always higher than the Sunday afternoon telecasts. Sports book officials believe that is because gamblers have less to wager on in prime time and during the week.
