NFL Teams Already Gambling On Backup Quarterbacks

The NFL season lends itself to many instances throughout the year when backups will be called upon to fill in for the starter. It does not usually happen in week three at the quarterback position unless there is an injury.

Several teams, however, have already hit the panic button and will be starting backup quarterbacks this weekend. One of those teams actually had Super Bowl aspirations coming into the season.

The Minnesota Vikings thought they had a leg up on the Green Bay Packers after Brett Favre retired, then unretired, then was traded to the Jets. After two weeks, however, the Vikings are 0-2 and the Packers and their new starter Aaron Rodgers are 2-0 and looking like world beaters.

In desperation mode, out is Tarvaris Jackson and in is Gus Frerotte under center. The other team moving to a backup this week had a different outlook coming into the season.

The Kansas City Chiefs came into the year knowing they would not have one of the strongest teams. Even the poor outlook could not save Damon Huard. He will be replaced this week by Tyler Thigpen from Coastal Carolina.

So far those have been the only two teams to panic, but losses this weekend by other teams could lead them down the same path.
