NFL Worried Delaware Sports Gambling Could Spread Throughout US

If sports gambling works in the state of Delaware, it will not be long before other states try to adopt similar laws. The NFL knows that, and that is why they are panicking and showing an aggressive nature in trying to stop the betting from starting.

The NFL season is less than a month away, and Delaware has every intention of having their new sports betting options in place by that time. The NFL and other major sports leagues have tried feverishly to stall this gambling from taking place.

Lawyers for the NFL have filed three separate motions this week with the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. On Wednesday, they asked for an injunction that would delay the sports betting in Delaware until their appeal is heard. They have already lost several court battles with the state.

The amount of effort the NFL is putting into this case shows just how scared they are that the rest of the country will find out what Las Vegas already knows, that sports betting is big business. The revenue is in the millions every weekend that there is football being played, both college and pro.

For years, the NFL has stood up to all comers, claiming they did not want gambling on their sport. They have ignored the fact that their sport is only as popular as it is because of bettors. Now, their secret is about to be let out of the bag, and just like anyone backed into a corner, the league is fighting for their lives.

The motions will most likely be rejected by the court, because Delaware is within their legal rights to offer the sports betting. Still, the NFL must try any means necessary to keep betting away. They know that once it starts, it will be hard to stop.

The state of New Jersey already has lawmakers that want sports betting laws changed. Once Delaware shows the amount of revenue it will generate for the state, other states will also begin to show interest. The economy is currently too bad to ignore any form of potential revenue stream.

So the NFL will sit on pins and needles in these next few weeks, hoping that they will be granted an injunction. If they do not succeed, it could be the beginning of sports gambling all across the US, and the NFL knows it.
