NHL Playoff Betting Begins Tonight, Red Wings And Sharks Favored

Over the course of the past decade the NHL has been passed by NASCAR in the hearts of people in the US. What used to be the third or fourth most popular sport in the US, has now dropped below NASCAR, golf, and most certainly basketball.

With that fact put aside, the NHL playoffs still begin this week and that means that gamblers in the US and Canada will be watching with the intentions of winning money. The odds nave come out as to who will win the Stanley Cup, and there is a familiar team at the top.

The Detroit Red Wings seem to be the Yankees of the NHL these days. In any given year entering the playoffs, Detroit is likely to be the betting favorite. There is no exception this year with the Red Wings a 3-1 favorite.

They are joined in the favorite role with another team from the Western Conference, the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks are also a 3-1 betting choice, and have been the leagues best team for much of the season.

The third choice comes from the top seeded team in the Eastern Conference, the Boston Bruins. The Bruins will try to follow the recent success of other sports teams in the area such as the Red Sox and Celtics.

The Vancouver Canucks and the Washington Capitals are the next choices. They both are holding odds of 8-1, and are followed by the New jersey Devils at 10-1. The Devils are always dangerous this time of year because of their goaltender, Martin Brodeur.

The two long shots of this years playoffs are the Columbus Blue Jackets and the St. Louis Blues, both at 50-1 to win the cup. Two familiar playoff teams are missing from the tournament this year. The Dallas Stars and the Colorado Avalanche have both missed the playoffs.
