NHL Playoff Gambling Odds Shuffle As Second Round Begins

The surprises that usually accompany the NHL playoffs might be lingering in the second round. With the top two seeds in both conferences still alive, not many underdogs prevailed in the first round.

The Detroit Red Wings and the Montreal Canadiens are two of the more storied NHL franchises. Much like a Boston Celtic, Los Angeles Laker match up would do for the NBA, a match up of the Canadiens and Red Wings in the finals would revive fans.

The two escaped the first round, and now will move into the second round where they will face unexpected opponents. The Red Wings will play the Colorado Avalanche, while the Canadiens will face the Philadelphia Flyers. Both underdogs are six seeds in their respective conferences.

The other two series' will feature number two seeds against number five seeds. The Rangers are back in the conference semi-finals, they will play the Penguins. In the West, San Jose will host the Dallas Stars.

The betting odds heavily favor the higher ranked teams in the match up of one and six seeds. In the two versus five match ups, the odds are more evenly distributed.

Two of the series' will start on Thursday, with the other two slated for Friday starts.
