NLCS Betting Preview: Can Phillies Close Series Against Dodgers?
The Philadelphia Phillies are showing this post season that their World Series championship last year was no fluke. They rolled over the Colorado Rockies and are not threatening to do the same to the Los Angles Dodgers.
For the second consecutive year, the Phillies take a 3-1 lead into game five of the championship series against Los Angeles. This year, however, things may be different for the Phillies if they do not wrap up the series tonight in Philadelphia.
The Dodgers have blown two late leads already that would have drastically changed the series. Instead of Philadelphia being up 3-1, the Dodgers could have been up 3-1. That shows how evenly matched these teams are.
If Los Angeles can get out of Philly with a win tonight, they would play game six, and, potentially game seven, at home. Home field advantage in baseball is not as important as in other sports, but it should still give the Dodgers the confidence boost needed to come back from 3-1.
The Phillies are slated to pitch last year's hero, Cole Hamels tonight. If he cannot close the door on the Dodgers, Pedro Martinez would most likely receive the ball in game six, with Cliff Lee the most likely game seven starter.
Los Angeles will counter Hamels tonight with former Phillies pitcher Vicente Padilla. The Dodgers bats have woken up lately, but they still have been unable to put the finishing touches on the Phillies. Game time tonight is 8:07 PM.
