North Carolina, Memphis, Heading Towards Number One Seeds

The North Carolina Tar Heels are the number one team in the country. They do not appear that they are going to give that title up as the conference tournaments are wrapping up this weekend.

The Memphis Tigers have already won their conference tournament. With only one loss on their resume for the season, they have positioned themselves well for the NCAA tournament.

Both the Tar Heels and the Tigers have put themselves in situations where they should be number one seeds when the selections are made on Sunday.

North Carolina actually had a scare on Saturday afternoon. They hung on to defeat a game Virginia Tech team. The Hokies got to the semi finals by defeating the Miami Hurricanes Friday afternoon.

The Tar Heels are now awaiting the winner of the Clemson, Duke game that is currently being played. North Carolina defeated Virginia Tech 68-66 earlier in the day.

As for Memphis, they ran through their conference tournament and had a dominating performance in the championship game. Their only loss of the season came against Tennessee in a game that was won in the last few seconds. If not for that loss, the Tigers would be searching for a perfect season.

Selection Sunday will have several teams sweating out the process in their bid to just make the field. The Tar Heels and Tigers, however, will be waiting to see if they did enough to earn a number one seed.
