Not Many Betting On Netherlands This Time Around At WBC

The players on the Netherlands may be the only people in the world that believe they can duplicate the amazing feat that they accomplished on Saturday afternoon. In one of the biggest upsets in the history of sports, the Netherlands defeated the heavily favored Dominican Republic.

The Dominican team is one that many experts believed to be one of the strongest teams in the competition. They have a roster made up almost entirely of Major League ballplayers, compared to the Netherlands group of players that nobody has heard of.

All the Netherlands did in the first game was score three runs in the first inning and then turn the game over to their pitchers. The pitchers took care of their business by keeping a line up including David Ortiz, Jose Guillen, Hanley Ramirez, and Jose Reyes from scoring more than two runs.

Tonight, no matter how great a feat that first victory was, the Netherlands has a chance to top it. If they win tonight and knock the Dominican Republic from the tournament, it may go down as the biggest surprise in the long history of sports.

Of course, nobody is expecting that. The best opportunity for the Netherlands to move into the second round may have come in their second game against Puerto Rico. They had the lead all the way into the eighth inning before Puerto Rico scored three runs to take the lead and the game.

Puerto Rico has moved on to Miami, so to has the United States and Venezuela. The last piece of the puzzle will come tonight from the Netherlands and Dominican Republic game, and much like Saturday, most expect the Dominican will emerge victorious.
