Barry Bonds, Frank Thomas, Alex Rodriguez, Craig Biggio, Greg Maddux, and Tom Glavine have all had magical seasons by reaching some of baseballs highest milestones, but now the focus shifts back to the field and who will win this years World Series.

In the American League East, the Red Sox have a six game lead on the charging Yankees. the Sox are hearing the footsteps, but their pitching is too deep and they will finally wrestle a division crown away from the Yanks.

The Central division is going down to the final week with both the Indians and the Tigers see-sawing back and forth between first and second, while the Twins are lurking in the water behind the top two. Take the Tigers pitching down the stretch, with the Indians winning the wild card.

The West has belonged to the Angels all year, and that will not change, even though the Mariners are still hanging around.

In the National League things are much tighter. In the East, the Mets have been in first place for a while, but that's only because the Braves and Phillies have not made a significant run. Mets hold on for the division and the Braves win the wild card.

The Central was the Brewers to lose after a strong first half, and they are doing their best to lose it. Chicago had a hot month and a half, but has since cooled. Don't look now, but the defending World Series champion Cardinals are getting closer and closer. Look for Pujols to carry the Cards by both the Brewers and Cubs.

The West is wide open. No team is eliminated, and this week's leader is the Diamondbacks. The Dodgers seem to have the most rounded team and haven't been hot yet, so they could end up winning this division. The Padres pitching will keep them close until season's end.

We've reached the dog days of summer and much is yet to be determined before the playoffs. One thing is certain, though, the focus the rest of the year will be on teams and not individuals, which is a welcomed change.
