Nuggets The Betting Favorite To Even Series With Lakers
The Denver Nuggets were the underdogs coming into the Western Conference finals against Los Angeles. The Lakers were the odds makers pick to win the NBA title when the season began.
That has not stopped many gamblers, however, from betting on the Nuggets. They were the more consistent team in the first two series' and there was a belief that they were good enough to defeat Los Angeles.
That underdog role will not be one the Nuggets will be playing in game four of the series tonight. Denver is favored by 4.5 points to win the game and even the series at two.
Perhaps it could be the extended minutes that Kobe Bryant has played in the past couple of games, or the exhausted look on his face after game three. Whatever the case, the sports books believe that Denver will win tonight.
"When you have a series that matches two top teams like Denver and L.A., the series odds are based largely on the current state of the series," said gaming analyst Gregory Tremb, "the betting public does not believe that the Lakers can win both games in Denver.
If they do win again tonight, it would most likely be lights out for the Nuggets. Denver is a formidable opponent for Los Angeles, but winning two games in L.A. may be a near impossible task.
The crowd will once again be ready to go tonight, but that is not necessarily a good thing for Denver. The players admitted after game three that they were trying to get the crowd going and it may have caused them to take too many three point shots.
They have vowed to not make the same mistake tonight, and they had better not. Their playoff lives hang in the balance, and they have already exhausted all of the mistakes they can afford to make.
