The Oregon Ducks are one of the few teams who have received a high ranking this season in college football that actually deserves their spot near the top. The Ducks once again blasted an opponent on Thursday night, leaving little doubt that they are one of the top teams in the country.
Odds makers have had a difficult time this season placing odds on Ducks games. Oregon went over the sixty point plateau on Thursday for the third time already this year, and when a team is putting up those kinds of offensive numbers, it is almost impossible to make a betting line high enough that they cannot cover.
On Thursday, the Ducks were favored by almost four touchdowns. That high number makes it difficult for gamblers to pull the trigger on the favorite, but for those that found the courage, they were paid off once again by Oregon. The 60-13 final did not even provide suspense for bettors.
Oregon is only the number two team in the first BCS standings that were released last Sunday, but that may soon change. The Ducks impressive performance puts the pressure on number one Oklahoma to win on Saturday. The Sooners are playing undefeated Missouri on the road, leaving open the possibility of an upset.
Oregon may rack up more than a title game appearance if they continue to win in this impressive fashion. LaMichael James is on the short list of Heisman hopefuls at the midway point in the year, and his performance Thursday night will only bolster those chances. James ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns.
The Ducks are first in the nation, averaging 54.3 points a game. The teams defense has been strong as well, ranked number sixteen. Next Saturday will provide a tough test for Oregon as they go on the road in a prime time game against USC. The Trojans cannot play in a BCS game because of NCAA sanctions, but they can ruin the hopes of Oregon reaching a championship game.
