Olympic Hockey Betting Odds: Canada And US Face Off Sunday
If the US has any thoughts of winning the gold medal in hockey at this year's Olympics, they will find out early on whether or not that feat is a realistic goal. On Sunday, the US Team faces off with heavily favored Canada.
While other teams have legitimate shots at bringing home one of the three medals, the US team is considered to be just outside that top tier of teams. They can put that prognostication to bed with a win tomorrow evening.
Both Canada and the US have won their first two games of the tournament. The US has had an easier run in their games, but Canada, at times, has looked dominant. The two teams have spent time in their opening games getting used to the atmosphere surrounding the Olympics.
Consistency has been the problem for Canada. They defeated Norway 8-0, but then struggled in a shootout win over the Swiss. The offense, loaded with weapons, has been slow to start and needs to gain momentum and focus going into the US game.
The US team is in the medal round with their wins in the first two games, and now they are simply playing for seeding in the next round. They will win the group with a win over Canada, and finish second should they lose.
At stake in Sunday's match-up will be pride. The two bordering countries will undoubtedly have millions of people watching and cheering for their home team. The US team is a heavy underdog, but as they have shown in past Olympics, that means little when national pride in on the line.
