Online Sports Books Have Chargers Favored To Win AFC West

The San Diego Chargers could be without some of their biggest names when they step on the field to start the upcoming season, but that has not deterred online sports books from making the Chargers the betting favorites. San Diego is the heavy favorite to win the AFC West this season.

The Chargers have been the team the past several season's that analysts have picked to be among the best in the AFC. Each year, San Diego has either run into a freight train in the playoffs, or fizzled out down the stretch.

This year, the Chargers will be without the services of LaDainian Tomlinson. The popular San Diego running back bolted for New York and will continue to chase the elusive title with the Jets. Even without L.T., analysts believe that Phillip Rivers has enough around him to win.

Denver was considered the second choice with odds of 5/1, but those may soon change. Elvis Dumervil, the Broncos sack specialist, was lost for the season in training camp. It may be too much to ask for the Broncos to overcome that loss and win the division.

The Oakland Raiders have been a laughingstock of the NFL the past several seasons. The team finally cut ties with former number one overall pick JaMarcus Russell this off season, and turned the reigns over to Jason Campbell. With a proven NFL quarterback under center and a much improved defense, the Raiders are a third betting choice to win the West at 7/1.

Kansas City is the long shot in the division. They, too, said goodbye to a long time runner, Larry Johnson. Jamal Charles will get the majority of the running load for the Chiefs, but their inexperience under center and at other key positions could leave Kansas City looking up at the rest of the division by the end of the season.
