Orlando's Gamble On Nelson Does Not Pay Off In Game One Of Finals

Playing against the most talented team in the league on the biggest stage is not the best place for the Orlando Magic to be gambling. That is exactly what they did, however, in game one of the NBA Finals on Thursday night.

The Magic played their all star guard, Jameer Nelson, inserting him into the rotation in the hopes of receiving a spark. By game's end, the only spark that they received at the Staples Center was one of the Los Angeles Lakers lighting dynamite and tying it to the Magic.

The Lakers have been on this stage before. They lost last year's finals to the Boston Celtics, and they look like they are in no mood to give a way another title. If the Magic are going to upset the Lakers, they are going to have to play more inspired basketball then they did last night.

This is where the use of nelson comes in. The Magic seemed to have been clicking on all cylinders heading into the finals. Their starters and bench both played well in the conference finals where they bounced the favored Cleveland Cavaliers.

In game one of the finals, they looked lost. Whether Nelson had anything to do with that remains to be seen. One thing, however, is certain. The Magic did not look good in Nelson's first game back from injury, and they need to clean up their act if they plan on making this any type of a competitive series.
