Pac Ten Betting Odds To Change As Andrew Luck Stays At Stanford
Andrew Luck cemented himself as the likely number one pick in the upcoming NFL draft with a dominant performance in the Orange Bowl. The only problem for the Carolina Panthers is that Luck chose to stay at Stanford rather than go to the NFL.
In a surprise decision Thursday, Luck bypassed millions of dollars to stay at Stanford and finish his degree. The star quarterback will also make another run at a perfect season and a chance to play in the national championship game.
Stanford was expected to fall way back when it came to the betting odds of winning the conference next season with Luck departing for the NFL. Now, odds makers will have to consider that the Heisman Trophy finalist will again be under center for Stanford come the fall.
In addition to Luck's return, there is still a chance that head coach Jim Harbaugh remains with the Cardinal. If Harbaugh returns, Stanford may end up being the favorite to win the conference, depending on what some of Oregon's top players decide to do about the draft.
Harbaugh has already been courted by San Francisco and Miami this week. Late Thursday, word came that Denver was also attempting to get Harbaugh in for an interview. John Elway, a popular Stanford alumni, just took over as the decision-maker for the Broncos, and their ties to Stanford may help Elway sway Harbaugh to come to Denver.
The Dolphins reportedly offered Harbaugh $8 million a year to become their next coach, but the Stanford coach was skeptical of the management system in Miami. The same can be said for San Francisco, where Harbaugh would have to move into a situation where a new GM was just hired.
