Packers And Patriots The Betting Favorites To Reach Super Bowl

The Green Bay Packers have lost one game since they held up the Lombardi Trophy last year in Dallas. The Packers played near flawlessly throughout the season, falling only to the Kansas City Chiefs in a week fourteen match-up in Kansas City. Now, Green Bay will play their first game of the postseason as the betting favorites to win the Super Bowl.

The Packers had a week off while the wild card teams battled it out to see who would head to Lambeau. The New York Giants won that distinction, and will take their high flying offense into a place where a shootout could be in the cards. Green Bay has odds of +155 to win the Super Bowl, while the Giants are the sixth choice of the eight remaining teams at +1000.

In the AFC, it is the New England Patriots that are the favorites. The Patriots have Super Bowl odds of +200, and are a close second choice to the Packers. The Patriots received what many analysts believed was a gift on Sunday when the Denver Broncos beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, sending the Broncos to New England Saturday evening. Denver is the long shot of the remaining teams, carrying +4500 odds.

The second seed in the NFC is San Francisco, but they are only the fifth choice as Super Bowl favorites. The 49ers have odds of +850, lower than the +300 odds of the team they are facing this weekend, New Orleans. The Saints are also favored in game by four points, although it will take place in San Francisco.

The next to last choice of odds makers is Houston. The Texans very well may have been the top seed in the AFC had they not lost their quarterback, Matt Schaub, and their top defensive player, Mario Williams, to injuries. Houston has odds of +1750. Baltimore will host the Texans on Sunday, and will do so with +375 odds to win the title. Baltimore has been knocked out of the playoffs two straight seasons by the Steelers, and with Pittsburgh gone, some analysts believe Baltimore may be the best team in the AFC.

The winners of the four games this weekend will meet next week in the conference championship games. The two teams that survive that round, will have two weeks off to begin preparations for the Super Bowl on February 5th.
