Paula Creamer Beating Betting Odds, Leads At Oakmont Country Club
The gambling on US sports has become so big on the Internet that women's sports are now in play for male gamblers. Golf is one of the sports where the best odds exist for bettors, and this week's US Women's Open may be an example of that.
Paula Creamer is considered by many to be the best female golfer that has never won a major title. Despite all of her success at non-major tournaments, Creamer came into the US Open with odds of 20/1 to win. For gamblers, that means $20 won for every $1 wagered.
It is true that in golf, gamblers have only their player against the rest of the field, but when that player is Creamer, and she is shooting as she did through the first two and a half rounds, the 20/1 odds may seem small. All she has to do to win her first major is play error free golf on Sunday.
Creamer leads by three shots over Wendy Ward and four shots over Suzann Pettersen. Creamer has five holes left to play in round three, and Pettersen has four holes left before moving to the final round. The two players will complete their third rounds in the morning.
It may not be an easy task for Creamer to hold off Pettersen, the latter is one of only eight golfers who came into the tournament with better odds than Creamer. Pettersen had odds of 12/1 when the event began. Christie Kerr not only was the best chance for an American win, but she also was the overall favorite at 9/1.
The women's game gives the opportunity to gamblers to cash in on the top players in the game. With the favorite at 9/1, any of the top ten or fifteen choices will offer big returns should they win. On the men's side, gamblers often had to deal with low odds on Tiger Woods, but that too has changed since the new season has started.
