Penguins May Have New Owner Before Hockey Season
The Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League may have new owners before the start of the 2006-07 season, according to several sports gambling experts. As many as five ownership groups have "serious" interest in buying the team, said Steve Greenberg, managing director for Allen & Co. Greenberg declined to identify any of the potential bidders. Several groups have talked publicly about buying the team, including Ohio businessman Jim Renacci, who is a part owner of the Columbus Destroyers arena football team; Lawrence Gottesdiener, CEO of Massachusetts-based real estate developer Northland Investment Corp.; and Toronto-based real estate developers David and Sam Fingold.
