PGA Betting Odds Just Not The Same Without Tiger Woods
The world of professional golf is just not the same without Tiger Woods. Aside from the obvious downfalls like lower attendance and television ratings, there is also the gambling aspect.
With Woods not playing for the rest of the year, the betting odds look much different than when he is out on the course. When Woods plays, usually he can be found anywhere from even money to two or three to one.
Now that he is gone, there is no golfer that is a clear cut favorite in the betting odds. Take this weekends WGC Bridgestone Invitational. No golfer in particular is favored to win the tournament.
The gambling favorite is the field. That means that a list of thirty or so players are given odds and if a bettor chooses to take anyone outside of those players, they will receive odds of 5-1.
The closest an actual golfer is to those odds is Phil Mickelson at 10-1. That says a lot about how much of a hold that Woods has on the sport. After Mickelson, no other golfer has better odds than 15-1.
Television ratings are down without Woods, and so is fan attendance at the events, but nothing is more affected in the golf world without Tiger than the gambling odds.
