Tiger Woods had the worst four rounds of golf in his career this past weekend, not exactly the tuneup he was looking for going into the PGA Championship. The fact that he finished thirty shots behind the winner has caused Woods to lose his favorite status amongst sports books.

For the past five years, two things have been certain when it comes to Woods. He has been the number one golfer in the world every week during that time, and he has been favored in just about every tournament he has entered.

That is particularly the case when it comes to major championships. Woods has had a stranglehold on the majors throughout his career. He enters the PGA this week, however, having not won any of the first three majors of the year.

Woods will also enter this week's tournament in the role of underdog for the first time in a long while. Phil Mickelson is the betting favorite with odds of 10/1. Woods is the second choice at 12/1, even with his eighteen over par performance this past weekend.

Mickelson not only is the betting favorite, but he also will be looking to wrestle the number one ranking away from Woods. Mickelson had an opportunity last weekend to become the top golfer in the world, but an awful Sunday left him short of finishing fourth, the requirement for overtaking Woods.

Rory McIlroy has become a popular choice among gamblers this year and he again offers enticing odds to win the PGA. McIlroy has odds of 16/1. Padraig Harrington, always a threat to win, is sitting on odds of 20/1. Steve Stricker is 22/1, and all other golfers in the field have odds of at least 25/1.
