Pittsburgh Kicks Off N.F.L. Season With Win Over Miami
The defending super bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers picked up right where they left off, winning another football game, this time beating the Miami Dolphins 28-17 in the N.F.L. opener Thursday night.
The Steelers, coming off an off season filled with controversy, mostly surrounding quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, answered their critics on Thursday night by using a smothering defense, and timely offense to defeat the Dolphins.
Roethlisberger did not play, which made the betting line move from Steelers by 4.5 to a pick em, but that did not stop the defending champs, as they once again showed they are still among the elite teams in the league.
Willie Parker led the Steelers offense with 115 yards rushing, and the defense was led by emotional linebacker Joey Porter, who put the game away late in the fourth quarter with an interception for a touchdown.
Pittsburgh will now get 10 days off before playing again on monday night against Jacksonville. The layoff should give Roethlisberger enough time off to recover from his emergency appendectomy surgery.
