Players Should be Penalized For Skipping All Star Festivities

With the NBA all star game this weekend, it comes as a good example of how most players could care less about the fans. Players have chosen to skip the weekends festivities, using injuries as their excuse.

This practice happens in all sports. Something needs to be done to make these players realize the importance of at least showing up, even if they are too injured to play.

The NFL, perhaps the biggest laughingstock of all the all star games, took place last weekend. Looking up and down the rosters for the AFC and NFC, both were filled with players who were second and in some cases, even third alternatives.

In baseball, hockey, and basketball, the games come in the middle of the season, so it it easier to justify the choices of players in these leagues. they are trying to gain a little rest before the stretch drive of their season starts.

In football, however, things are a little different. Players that typically have had their teams lose the Super Bowl, almost always take a rain check on the pro bowl in Hawaii. Penalties should be levied against players who do not at least show their face at the festivities. If players are voted in to play in the game, that means people want to see them. If they are too injured to play, have them at least show up and sign autographs and go to the functions of the weekend.

Most likely, if players were forced to go to the events, themselves, the mysterious injuries that keep these players away, would also disappear.

Too many players opt out of these all star games, which, in turn makes the games nothing more than exhibitions. If players want to bail on their fans, then a penalty should be in place to punish them accordingly.
