Preakness Betting Odds: Rachel Alexandra The Morning Favorite
The Kentucky Derby has come and gone and that means it is time for the second leg of the Triple Crown. The Preakness Stakes will be run on Saturday and the morning line favorite is Rachel Alexandra.
The horse has betting odds of 5/4. The second choice to win the race is Pioneer of the Nile at 4/1. The Derby winner, Mine That Bird is the third choice at 5/1.
"It is rare that the Derby winner is not favored in the second leg of the Triple Crown," said racing analyst Brad Frumer, "But with Mine That Bird we have a long shot horse that odds makers believe does not have enough left to win again."
What could hurt the horse even more on Saturday is the fact that the jockey that won the Derby, Calvin Borel, will be riding Mine That Bird's chief competition in the Preakness. Borel will be riding Rachel Alexandra.
Mine That Bird arrived at Pimlico on Tuesday evening with a police escort. Mike Smith is expected to be named the rider for the Kentucky Derby winner at the Preakness. The last time a Derby winning jockey did not ride the winning horse in the Preakness was 1945.
