Preakness Gambling Begins When Betting Odds Released Tomorrow

The Kentucky Derby sent twenty horses to the gates and when all was said and done, Super saver emerged as the Derby winner. Now, on the eve of the field and betting odds being released for the 135th Preakness Stakes, gamblers are preparing to make their move.

The Preakness allows a maximum of fourteen horses, and it is expected that thirteen will enter this years race. Although it still will be a big field, many of the opponents to Super Saver will be different from the Kentucky Derby field.

Along with Super Saver, only four other horses that ran in the Derby will be competing in the Preakness. Paddy O'Prado, Jackson Bend, Dublin, and Lookin at Lucky will all run in the Preakness, with Lookin at Lucky looking to rebound after being the favorite in the Derby but running a poor race.

It is likely when the odds are released tomorrow that the Derby winner will be the early morning favorite. Whether or not Super Saver can have the clean run he had in the Derby only two weeks after that race is yet to be determined. Super Saver has never run a race two weeks apart.

Should Super Saver win the Preakness, the horse will most likely be headed to New York to try and complete the Triple Crown. No horse has won the Triple Crown in over thirty years, and the length of the final race at Belmont has much to do with that fact.

Jockey Calvin Borel has won three of the past four Kentucky Derby's and will again ride Super Saver in the Preakness on Saturday. The trainers and jockeys are hoping for a better weather situation this weekend, after having to run the Derby on a rain-saturated track at Churchill Downs.
