Pro Football Gambling Returns Show No Real Trends in Week One
The beginning of the NFL regular season usually sees a time for gamblers to make some money early in the regular season before the house takes it all back in the end.
Week one in 2007, however, finished on Sunday with most gamblers shaking their heads at some of the outcomes to the games.
There were 13 games played on Sunday, and if week one was any indicator, this season could prove to be one of the toughest in recent history for the casual gambler.
Of the games completed so far in the league for week one, eight of the favorites covered the point spreads, five underdogs covered, and one game ended as a push.
This would seem to favor the gambler who plays the favorites, except for the fact that of the five underdogs that covered the spreads, four of them won the game outright. That means, that anyone playing teasers with favorites from any of these upsets had a rough day.
If their was one trend that seemed likely in week one, it was in the point totals for each game. Of the 14 games played so far, nine of the 14 have gone under the total.
This surely messed up gamblers, especially in games such as St, Louis-Carolina, Philly-Green Bay, Seattle-Tampa Bay, and San Diego-Chicago, all of which had totals over 40 points, and featured at least one high powered offense, yet all these games stayed under their totals.
With two games left in week one on Monday night, gamblers still have a shot to make up for money lost, but surely this is not the way the season was supposed to begin.
There is an overwhelming theme in pro football gambling, players like to play favorites, and overs in totals, usually the first few weeks are profitable, but week one this season has gamblers already scrambling for answers, not a good sign with 16 more weeks to go.
