Red Wings The Betting Favorites As NHL Playoffs Continue
The NHL playoffs are long and grueling, much like the NBA playoffs, but for four teams, the end of the road is here. The conference finals have begun and Detroit is the betting favorite to win the Stanley Cup.
The Red Wings came into the playoffs as the number two seed in the Western Conference. San Jose held down the top seed, but they were upset in the first round by the Anaheim Ducks. That left the Red Wings to play the Ducks in round two.
Trying to avoid a similar fate, Detroit took all of Anaheim's best punches and came out of the series still standing. They won game seven at home, and now have their sights set on the Chicago Blackhawks in the conference finals. Detroit is even money to win a championship.
Chicago has had themselves a memorable run so far. They are the third choice of odds makers at 4/1. To get to their ultimate goal, the Blackhawks will have to overcome the favored Red Wings in their upcoming series.
Over in the Eastern Conference, it is the Pittsburgh Penguins that are the betting favorites to make it to the finals. They are 2/1 after beating Washington on the road in game seven of the last round.
The Penguins will play another surprising team in the conference finals. The Carolina Hurricanes are the underdog team that is left in the playoffs. Their odds are 5/1, but with the upsets the NHL has already seen in this year's playoffs, nobody is counting the Hurricanes out.
