Redskins Gambling On Jason Taylor To Fill Defensive Holes
The Washington Redskins have had a difficult time the past few years in the NFC East. The Giants won the Super Bowl last year, and the Cowboys were the best team in the division all year.
On Sunday, the Washington Redskins took a step they hope will change the balance of power in the division. They traded for Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor.
It did not take long for the Redskins to fill a hole that sprung open nearly nine hours earlier. Starting defensive end Phillip Daniels left the playing field on the first day of training camp with an injury.
It was determined that Daniels' injury was serious enough that he would miss the entire season. Taylor immediately was brought in through the trade to fill the spot.
Taylor won the defensive player of the year award just a few years ago. He did not play up to those standards last year, but that could have been because the players around him were mediocre at best.
When Bill Parcells took over in Miami, he immediately traded Taylor's long time teammate Zach Thomas to the Cowboys. It was not long before Taylor was looking for a trade himself.
It took a little longer than both the Dolphins and Taylor wanted, but in the end a deal finally got done. Taylor has already began positioning himself for life after football by appearing on last year's Dancing With The Stars.
The Dolphins received a second round pick in 2009 and a sixth round pick in 2010 for Taylor.
