Redskins Portis Ruled Out For Big Divisional Game Vs. Cowboys
Clinton Portis has been battling a shoulder problem for most of the pre-season, and although he played through the injury in the 'skins opening game loss to the Vikings, he will not play Sunday in a huge divisional game against Dallas.
The Redskins and the Cowboys are both coming off disappointing debuts last week as the Redskins lost at home to Minnesota while Dallas lost on the road at Jacksonville.
The 0-1 starts by both teams means that this weeks game becomes as critical as a second game of the year could be. The loser will go to 0-2, not a start either had planned for as both teams are favored in the N.F.C. East.
Portis' injury means the bulk of the running game will go to Ladell Betts and that also will put more pressure on Mark Brunell, the Redskins quarterback.
For Dallas, Drew Bledsoe will have to play better than in week 1, when the Cowboys scored early and then were shut out the rest of the game by the Jaguars.
