Reggie Bush Scandal Continues, No Comfort For Online Gamblers

For the past couple of months, the news surrounding the Reggie Bush scandal has been centered on Bush's Heisman Trophy and USC's national championships. Another group of sports fans, however, have their own issues with what happened during the Bush era at USC.

Online gamblers spend millions of dollars each year at online sports books betting on college football. USC was one of the glamour betting teams back when they were dominating college football, and gamblers either chose to jump on the bandwagon or take the large amount of points USC laid every Saturday.

It is the underdog bettors that have the biggest problem with the Bush scandal today. Gamblers who bet on the fact that no matter how good the Trojans were, they could have an off day once in a while. Those off days came few and far between, and gamblers remember them well.

"I used to bet against USC every weekend because I did not like the way they were cocky and arrogant," said Mark Belsor. "Now it looks like they did some things that were against NCAA rules, and those infractions may have led to players such as Bush being on the field and costing me money."

Sports books cannot go back and change history, and even if Bush's Heisman Trophy is taken away, and the national titles stripped, sports books are not going back and changing their record books. A loss is a loss in Las Vegas sports books, and it is rare that these sports books ever give back money once it is ruled a losing bet.

One thing the scandal may have changed is the future of college football betting. Alabama and Florida are both under investigation for similar situations to that of Bush where players were paid before they were out of school. Alabama coach Nick Saban had harsh words for the NFL, and wants to see agents pay the price for tempting these athletes with lavish gifts before they declare for the NFL.
