Republicans Gambling On Redskins To Pull Off Political Upset
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been riding a wave of momentum for what seems like the entire season so far. They are considered among the leagues best and tonight will get a chance to prove they deserve that title.
The Washington Redskins have a whole bunch more weight on their backs tonight. The nation's next president could hinge on whether the Redskins win or lose at home tonight.
Since the Redskins have been playing football, the outcome of the presidential election has been directly related to how Washington did in their last home game before the election. Perhaps that is why both presidential candidates are appearing in an interview on Monday Night Football.
When the Redskins have won the week before, the party that was in power stayed in power. When the Redskins lose, the other party has taken control of the White House. It is a trend that has worked seventeen of the last eighteen times. That puts a lot of pressure on the Redskins.
"Man, to think the whole election rides on how well our team plays, that's amazing. I hope, then, as much as it pains me to say it, that the Redskins lose, because I am a Democrat who wants to see a victory Tuesday," said Josh Harletsky, a twenty nine year old Redskin fan.
Republican Redskin fans, on the other hand, are hoping a Washington victory tonight provides the spark for a McCain upset on Tuesday.
"Man, if that is true, it would be great to see the 'Skins win the game. That would mean an upset is brewing Tuesday. That would be a great start to my week," said Republican and Redskin fan Joel Simon.
For gambling purposes, bettors might come in heavy on the Steelers tonight. With Barack Obama holding what most think is an insurmountable lead in the presidential race, the trend would indicate a Pittsburgh victory.
