Road Underdogs Big Winners For Sports Gamblers in N.F.L. Week 1
The first week of the pro football season is usually reserved for home favorites to ring in the new year with resounding victories, however, this year was different, as many visiting underdogs left town with wins.
Among the teams who pulled off the early season upsets were the New York Jets, who beat Tennessee.
Also winning on the road was Philadelphia, Chicago, New Orleans, San Diego, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Seattle.
There were a few surprises on the road as playoff teams from last year were knocked off at home by non playoff teams.
Baltimore, with their revamped offense, led by Steve Mcnair, went to Tamba Bay and shut out the Bucs 27-0.
Atlanta went into Carolina, who played in the N.F.C. title game last year, and beat the Panthers.
And Perhaps the biggest upset of all, the Minnesota Vikings, playing on a Monday night in the nations capital, went into Washington and took care of business against the Redskins 19-16.
Many teams picked to go far in this year's playoffs were beaten in week one and all eyes will be on week two to see if they can recover.
