Robbie Hummel Injury Changes Odds For Online Gamblers
The Purdue Boilermakers had aspirations of playing in the Final Four this upcoming college basketball season. The prospects, according to the betting odds, were pretty good that Purdue could reach that lofty goal.
Midnight Madness weekend is supposed to be a joyous occasion for college fans, and for most teams, Friday night was a success. At Purdue, however, the scene quickly turned to despair when it was learned that Robbie Hummel injured his right knee at practice and will be out for the season.
Last season, Purdue was marching towards a strong run at a national championship when Hummel injured his knee against Minnesota. That injury cost Hummel the rest of his season and cost Purdue the chance to make a run at the Final Four. The team was waiting on Hummel to return this season, and he finally was cleared before practice started.
Hummel has been down this road before so he understands the rehab process that will have to take place. The knee that Hummel injured on Saturday was the same one that knocked him out last year. After surgery, Hummel rehabbed the knee to be ready for this season.
Purdue was ranked in the top five when their star player was hurt last season. The Boilermakers did make adjustments after the injury, reaching the Sweet Sixteen. This season, they will have to come up with a plan to get through the entire season.
Online gamblers already have the opportunity to place season bets on their favorite college basketball teams. The Boilermakers odds are expected to change now that they are without Hummel. Purdue may still be one of the favorites to win the Big Ten title.
