Roethlisberger Appendectomy Worth Four Points To Gamblers
If you've ever wondered how much a star quarterback has meant to a betting line, the answered might have come on Sunday night, when Pittsburgh Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was resting in a Pittsburgh hospital.
The Steelers star quarterback had an emergency appendectomy on Saturday night and it became clear that he would not start the season opener Thursday against Miami.
The oddsmakers in Las Vegas had the Steelers as a four point favorite before news of Roethlisberger surfaced on Sunday.
After the story broke, the point spread went to a pick-em. So concievably, the injury means that the super bowl champion winning quarterback is worth four points to his team.
Other factors could have gone into the line change, such as, Pittsburgh wide reciever Hines Ward being questionable for the game. However, Roethlisberger being out was the main reason for the four point swing.
