Roger Clemens Indictment Leads Gamblers To Question Betting Losses

Roger Clemens was once considered to be the most feared pitcher of a generation. He also was as close to a lock as any gambler could want. The chances were that when Clemens was on the mound, the game would be low scoring and his team would win.

Now, gamblers are starting to wonder just how much money Clemens may have cost them during his playing career. Clemens was indicted on Thursday for lying to Congress about his steroid use, and bettors are left questioning whether the gambling odds were a product of his steroid use.

"When I was doing a lot of baseball betting in Las Vegas back in the nineties, I would always try to go against Clemens because of the high odds I received on his opponents," said Gary Beltor. "I lost a lot of those games, and it kind of stinks that I may have lost that money because this guy was cheating by using illegal steroids to help his performance."

Of course, not all gamblers had the same strategy. For those who understood how dominant Clemens could be on a nightly basis when he pitched, thousands of dollars were won going against the odds and betting on Clemens. In these instances, it may have been the sports books who lost out on revenue because of the steroids.

Clemens had a long career and had success in every city that he pitched. During his career, Clemens spent time in Boston, Houston, Toronto, and New York. One of his best friends on the Yankees was Andy Pettitte, who came out and said that Clemens had told Pettitte that he used human growth hormones.

Clemens has denied the allegations and continues to assert that he did not use steroids. Former trainer Brian McNamee produced evidence to the contrary, although Clemens attorney's have yet to have the opportunity to break down the evidence. They may soon get their chance after Clemens was indicted on six charges that he lied during hearings that Clemens was not even ordered to attend.
