Royals Gambling On Greinke To Win American League Central

The way Zach Greinke sees it, he was just a twenty year old who was able to perfectly place his pitches wherever he wanted. That side of the game came easy. It was the mental side that Greinke struggled with.

As with many young pitchers, the mental side of the game was eating Greinke up. He would explode if things did not go his way, and he could not figure out why he disliked the game of baseball so much.

Then, Greinke was diagnosed with a social anxiety disorder. Doctors prescribed him different medications until they found the right combination, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Greinke is now the ace of the Kansas City Royals, and he has not yet given up an earned run this season. His arm, coupled with other young arms such as Gil Meche and Kyle Davies, have the Royals believing they can win the American league Central this year.

That is an awfully lofty goal for a team that has not been relevant for two decades. Still, despite their lack of recent success, fans in Kansas City believe this team can make a run at the playoffs.

Their offense is led by Jose Guillen, who smacked two home runs in one game this week after returning from a stint on the DL. Greinke, meanwhile, takes the hill again tonight when the Royals face another surprising team, the Toronto Blue Jays.
