Schilling Makes Rare Start as Sportsbook Underdog
The veteran Boston Red Sox ace might not be popular in the Bronx, but he's big in the legal offshore sportsbooks category right now after raking in more than four units in seven starts this season. The winnings, however, haven't come cheap.
The last time oddsmakers were bold enough to make Boston`s big right-hander an underdog was Sept. 10, 2005 at Yankee Stadium, the same unfriendly environment that will play host to New York's most unwelcome visitors again tonight. And just as he had done in the 2004 ALCS on that mythic mound, Schilling pitched a gem and earned the bettor`s bonus as the dog. He went eight dominant innings and gave up five hits and two runs in a 9-2 victory in which the Red Sox closed at +123.
