For anyone who tries to make an argument that college athletics is more entertaining than professional sports, Saturday was a day they can use in their defense.

In what was one of the wildest weekends in college football in recent history, top ranked teams fell one after another and left the race for the national title wide open.

It's much easier to list the teams that did not get upset this weekend, and it is not a long list, #1 USC, #2 LSU, #8 Ohio State, and #6 California, were the survivors.

The walking wounded started on Friday night when #5 West Virginia lost to #18 South Florida. That game was a sign of what was to come on Saturday.

#3 Oklahoma was stunned by Colorado as the Buffaloes scored 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to erase a 14 point deficit and defeat the Sooners.

Florida, the defending national champions, lost for the second straight year to Auburn, a three touchdown underdog, in the Swamp.

#7 Texas did not escape the upset virus as they lost to conference foe Kansas State.

As if that was not enough wreckage to the top twenty five, #10 Rutgers and #13 Clemson also were upended by lesser opponents.

Penn State, coming off a tough loss to Michigan, lost for the second week in a row, this time to Illinois.

The other upset of the day came in Jacksonville where #22 Alabama lost to Bobby Bowden's Florida State Seminoles.

The onslaught of upsets is sure to shuffle the rankings and seems to set a clear path for what was perceived to be the two best teams, the Trojans and the Tigers.
