Sports Gamblers Shift Betting Interest Towards Winter Olympics
The NFL season was completed last weekend when the New Orleans Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl. That left gamblers feeling a bit empty going into the stretch between football and baseball.
This year, however, there is a sporting event that will do more than bridge that gap in time. The Winter Olympics officially began with the opening ceremony's Friday night, and that means that Olympic gambling is right around the corner.
The first events are being held this weekend, and gamblers will have their choice of some of the most popular sports in the world. Skiing events are offered, as well as various forms of racing on the ice.
The event that may gain the most attention from gamblers should be the hockey tournament. The Canadians are among the favorites to take home the gold, but bettors will also focus on Russia and possibly the US as teams that may knock the Canadians out of the top spot.
For those who do not like betting on the Olympics, their other option this weekend will be the NBA. There are no regularly scheduled games, but the All-Star game is on Sunday and for those who are risk-takers, odds are available for the slam dunk and three point shooting contests.
Major League Baseball is still over a month away. Pitchers and catchers will start reporting this week, and position players are due in camp by the end of the month. Spring training games will begin in March.
