Strength Of Schedule Could Alter Upcoming NFL Betting Odds
The Miami Dolphins and the Atlanta Falcons are two teams that came out of nowhere last year to make the playoffs. The Dolphins went from the worst team in the AFC, to a division champion in one year.
Now, it is time for Miami to pay the price for that success. The 2009 NFL schedule is being released this evening, and the Dolphins will have one of the toughest schedules in the league. The schedule could immediately alter the betting lines for next season.
Of course, if recent history is used as a model, the Dolphins could be in excellent shape. Last year, the Pittsburgh Steelers had the toughest schedule in the NFL in the past thirty years. They turned that difficult schedule into a road map on their way to a championship.
The winning percentage for teams on Miami's upcoming schedule won at an amazing .594 clip. That makes it unlikely the Dolphins will repeat as division champs and playoff participants. The Atlanta Falcons may be looking at the same troubles as the Dolphins.
For gamblers who like to bet on NFL futures, tonight becomes a big night. If the team they like plays a tougher schedule, the odds of them winning are likely to drop. Conversely, if a team such as New England should come up with a weak schedule, their odds of success will grow, thus dropping their odds of winning the Super Bowl.
The schedules are going to be released much like everything else with the NFL, with great fanfare. ESPN will hold a schedule special on ESPN2 at 7:00 PM.
