SuperSonics And NBA Betting On Playing in Oklahoma City in Future
It has long been coming that the Seattle would not be the future home of the SuperSonics. The team has been discussing relocation for several years. Now, they appear ready to take a gamble on Oklahoma City as their new home.
Sixteen owners of NBA franchises would have to approve the move to Oklahoma City. On Tuesday, three of them were impressed with a presentation that was put on by Oklahoma.
"It was a pretty full presentation and pretty much a tour de force on behalf of Oklahoma that I'd say impressed the members of the committee greatly," said NBA Commissioner David Stern.
The committee was comprised of Indiana Pacers owner Herb Simon, New Jersey Nets owner Lewis Katz, and Los Angeles Lakers Vice president, Jeanie Buss. All three were impressed by what Oklahoma could offer an NBA franchise.
Even when the SuperSonics leave Seattle, Stern does not believe that the city will be shut out of having an NBA team for long. "I think Seattle is actually a terrific market. It just doesn't have an NBA ready arena of the future That's been agreed to by all parties for many years," Stern said.
On April 18th, all the owners of NBA teams will get to vote on the relocation of the SuperSonics. Only a majority need to vote in favor of the relocation for it to become a reality.
