Sweet Sixteen Betting Begins With Some Familiar Teams Involved
If the first weekend of the NCAA college basketball tournament was any indication, this year's event could go down as one of the best tournament in the history of college hoops. On Sunday, Duke joined a select group of repeat teams to make it to the Sweet Sixteen.
Gamblers will almost certainly begin their betting on Monday for a Sweet Sixteen that includes Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State, and Syracuse. All of those teams have been deep into the tournament in past years.
Of that group, Duke, Syracuse, and Kentucky are all number one seeds. The three teams made it through opening weekend, while another number one, Kansas, was stunned on Saturday by Northern Iowa.
The Jayhawks came into the NCAA tournament as the top overall seed, but they trouble with Northern Iowa for the entire game. Kansas made the game close at the end, but they fell just short in their comeback attempt.
Ohio State, considered by most to be the strongest number two seed, made it to the Sweet Sixteen. They will face Tennessee, the sixth seeded team in the Midwest region. In the West, Butler will face Syracuse, and Xavier will play against Kansas State.
Baylor, St. Mary's, and Duke are awaiting the winner of the Purdue-Texas A & M game Sunday evening in the South. In the East, Cornell, Washington, and West Virginia advanced, along with Kentucky.
