Tampa Bay Rays Attempting To Shift World Series Betting Odds

The Tampa Bay Rays came out of the gates this season on fire in the first few months, and many believed they were equipped to compete with the Yankees for the American League East. After slipping, the Rays are again trying to tilt the World Series betting odds in their favor.

Tampa had slipped behind the Yankees for much of the past couple of months, and analysts started predicting the Yankees would again win the division. At the end of play tonight, however, the Rays may be tied with New York atop the standings.

Tampa has used a three game series over the weekend to get within a game of the Yankees. The Rays won two of three of the games with New York, and are hoping to have first place all to themselves by the end of the week.

Tampa and New York have both been helped out by a rash of injuries that have hit the Boston Red Sox. Joe Maddon again has his team in the midst of a playoff push after taking the Rays to the World Series just two seasons ago. This year, Tampa has more pitching depth than the World Series team.

The biggest difference between this year's Rays and last year's squad is the bullpen. Rafael Soriano has come in and secured the ninth inning for Tampa, and their offense has been more consistent than in the past. Carl Crawford and Evan Longoria are again anchoring the offense.

Boston has been playing well lately, and they may soon get both Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia back. The Red Sox, however, are 6.5 games off the pace in the AL East. The Yankees added Lance Berkman and Kerry Wood at the trade deadline, shoring up an already complete team.
