Tampa Bay Rays Moving On To Championship Series After 6-2 Win
The Tampa Bay Rays have been the punchline to jokes since they came into the league with the Florida Marlins. While their neighbors in the Sunshine State have won two world championships, they have not been able to get out of last place in the American League east.
That was until this year. The Rays shocked most analysts by holding off the Boston Red Sox and burying the New York Yankees on their way to a division title. Next, the critics said they were too young to win in the playoffs.
That too, turned out to be an incorrect prediction. Tampa Bay defeated the Chicago White Sox on Monday afternoon and now will wait for the winner of the Anaheim-Boston series to see who they will play in the league championship series.
The Rays again did their damage against the White Sox with timely hitting and stellar pitching. The young Rays staff has rounded into form quickly this year and now lead a team that could win themselves a World Series title.
The betting odds at the beginning of the season were huge just for the Rays not to finish last. Anyone who could have seen this outcome could become very rich in a couple of weeks should the Rays continue on their path.
If the Angels come back to win their series, they will host the Rays in the championship series. If Boston wins, however, the Rays will have home field advantage for as long as they remain in the playoffs.
