Thanksgiving Night NFL Football: It Is All About The Gambling
NFL officials run far and fast when asked questions about sports betting, and, in particular, gambling on their games. They claim that gambling is not the reason that the NFL is as popular as it is today.
Amazingly, however, the league continues to expand their prime time games during the week. One of their latest expansion acts is bringing an NFL game to Thanksgiving night. For gamblers, Thanksgiving night is prime time for placing bets after spending all day with their families celebrating the holidays.
Some of the most gambled on football games every year were the college football games that are aired on ESPN on Thursday nights throughout the season. Understanding that to be the case, the NFL quickly jumped at the opportunity to get their games as the showcase gambling acts on Thursdays.
Starting in week eight now, gamblers have a Thursday night NFL game every week. The Thanksgiving night game is yet another example of how, while they play dumb to the general public, the powers that be in the NFL offices absolutely have their hand on the pulse of sports betting in the US.
The playoffs have expanded to prime time games as well. What better for a gambler than to have three different time slots on a Saturday to gamble on games, rather than just two. Bettors can lose or win money in the day, bet again in the late afternoon, and then either chase their money or go for the gold during the night game.
That option is available now on Turkey Day as well. The NFL can keep pretending they are the geniuses behind the popularity of the NFL, but at least for those paying attention to the new scheduling tactics, it is nice to know that behind closed doors, the officials of the league know exactly what is going on.
