Thousands Bet That The World Would End In June
A story came out recently on how betting on pop culture events is becoming increasingly popular. Bets have been made on when Britney Spears is going to get divorced, on who will be found first (Bin Laden or Haffa), and on when the Lebanonese war would end.
The news, though, to us was that a line in June was released on whether the world was going to come to an end on June, 6, which would be the sixth day of the sixth month of the sixth year of the new millenium. What was not so crazy was the line, what was so crazy was that thousands of people actually put real money on the fact that the world would come to an end.
So, if the world came to an end, the bettors would win, however, they'd be dead and thus not able to collect their winnings, and if the world didn't end, they lose their money. That is the ultimate suckers bet, and thousands of people took it.
