Fans of Tiger Woods were shocked last Thanksgiving when Woods ran his car into a tree. The aftermath of that accident had Woods admitting to infidelity and a sexual addiction. Woods checked into a treatment center in an attempt to reconcile his marriage and his golf game.
Shortly after being released from the treatment center, Woods returned to golf, but for gamblers, the golfer was not the same sure bet that he was before all of his personal problems. Gone were the days of Woods winning events by double digit strokes.
Now, bettors may soon be able to comfortably place wagers on Woods once again. Tiger Woods' divorce settlement is almost complete, and that should lead to the golfer refocusing his efforts on the golf course. Woods recently split with not only his wife, but also his long time swing coach.
In the divorce settlement, it is rumored that Woods will be giving Elin Nordegren at least $750 million. Although that is a small piece of Woods' overall worth, his status has slipped in the past year with many endorsers pulling out of deals with the admitted cheater.
The only way to reclaim that fame and the trust of advertisers is to start winning golf tournaments once again. If Woods can win a major and a couple of other tournaments this year, his clout would once again grow to legendary status.
Gamblers, meanwhile, had received better odds on Woods this season, but he has yet to deliver a win. That has left bettors paying in a sport where it used to be almost automatic to collect when Woods was in a tournament field. This weekend, Woods will be playing in the AT&T National, an event he won last year.
