Tigers Even World Series With Win in Game 2
Faced with a situation they had not experienced since game two of the divisional series against the Yankees, the Tigers responded with a 3-1 win at home and sent the series to St. Louis tied at one game each.
Detroit had a rocky start in game two when starting pitcher Kenny Rogers apparently had a foreign substance on his hand in the first inning, but the umpires ruled that Rogers did nothing illegal, and the Tigers pitcher settled in to pitch 8 scoreless innings of two hit ball to lead Detroit.
The Tigers got a first inning home run from Craig Monroe and then coasted until the 9th inning, when the Cardinals put the tying run on second base, only to see Yadier Molina ground out into a fielder's choice to end the game.
The series now shifts to St. Louis for games 3,4,and 5. The Cards will have their ace Chris Carpenter on the mound for game 3.
If the series extends beyond game 5, games 6 and 7 would be back in Detroit.
